How Grove Began

Spurting up as the result of a spring-fed watering hole, Grove, Oklahoma is a history rich city Rich in the traditions of both the Indian Territory, U. S. and the early settlement of Oklahoma by the westward bound pioneers.

A clear, cool and refreshing spring created watering hole, which now is right in the middle of the Grove Springs Park, for which it's named after. This water hole made this northeastern Oklahoma area a perfect overnight spot for the wagon trains headed westward. The weary pioneers referred to the watering hole as Grove Springs. The area had long been a popular watering hole for both Indian and wildlife before the infiltration of civilization.

Due to the traffic created by the now infamous watering hole, Grove Springs provided a natural attraction for merchants to set up their wares to provide goods to the wagoneers and also to trade with the many Indians in the area. Soon a settlement sprang up that later became Grove, Oklahoma.

Grove, nestled in the northeastern comer of Oklahoma near the Arkansas, Missouri and Kansas borders, provided the northern boundaries of the Cherokee Indian Nation and the southern boundaries of what is known as the Nine Tribes area.

The Grove area is still rich in Indian Tradition, and many landmarks still stand in evidence of this. Cayuga Mission, the old wagon factory the Seneca-Cayuga ceremonial grounds, Indian burial grounds, Indian churches and many other such memories still live on or around our modern time Grove. The early day settlers also left their impressions on Grove, as many landmarks of their time are still noticeable. A recreation of their way of life has been built at Har-Ber Village, available to the public from March until November to relive those early days. The wagon wheel ruts of the Texas Road are still visible in some rural areas around Grove.

Grove, Oklahoma... Christmas time in Grove has to be most festive time during the non-summer months. A spectacular lighted Christmas Parade is featured each year in Grove, held the second Saturday evening in December. Grove's own Christmas Lane also treat our locals as well as sightseers from all over the country that come to drive through the fantastic display

Some of the area's finest entertainment is located within the city limits of Grove. The famous Har-Ber Village, the Cherokee Queen paddleboats, and the live music shows that are available here, not to mention just good ole friendly folks, just waiting to say howdy
